The Bothy & Icehouse
Built in 1877 the bothy and the icehouse formed the Easter Delnies Fishing Station one of five active salmon fisheries between Whiteness Head, two miles west of Nairn and the mouth of the Findhorn nine miles to the east.
The bothy was described as “very good”, catching up to 5000 salmon in a good season.
In the winter months ice from local rivers and a specially made pond was collected and stored in the icehouse to keep the fish fresh.
Both buildings have recently had a facelift and the Bothy has been converted into a halfway house where golfers can purchase snacks and refreshments while taking a well-earned breather at the turn and enjoying the stunning scenery.
